SÃO SEBASTIÃO FORTRESS

  • Located in the Northern part of the Island of Mozambique, by the Chapel of Our Lady of Baluarte, one of the oldest european buildings in the Southern hemisphere and unique example of the Manueline architecture in the country, the Fortress of São Sebastião was erected in the 16th century by the Portuguese occupiers and is the largest military building in Sub-Saharan Africa.

    The proposed intervention contemplates a diverse program, capable of developing the social and economic life of the island - a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site The proposed intervention if one of limited invasiveness, easily reversible, adding a set of light structures gifting the complex of all the necessary infrastructures without compromising the integrity of this building of great historical value.
