The project consists of the rehabilitation and extension of a building in the dynamic Rua da Escola Politécnica in Lisbon, in front of the National Museum of Natural History and Science. Aligned by the grand museum staircase, we find the Beco do Colégio dos Nobres, an old blind alley reactivated as an access to the back of the building, turned into a public patio, as an outdoor living space.
The intervention contemplates the extension of one floor, the overall reconfiguration of the rear and front façade, in harmony with the composition of the façade of the neighboring buildings in its proportions, rhythm and size. The old shop at the ground floor, once a tea shop that became an antiques store, will be fully integrated in the new configuration.
Around the new patio, almost like a cloister, the rear façade of two floors, recreates the character of the ground floor stonework of the main front façade in prefabricated precast concrete.
