DOC Rui Paula

  • The DOC restaurant is located on the south bank of the Douro River, in the heart of the Alto Douro Wine Region, an area classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Given the large number of visitors that Cais da Folgosa has and the relevance and prestige it has had for the protected area of the Alto Douro Wine Region, the project envisages the requalification of the building currently occupied by Chef Rui Paula's restaurant.

    The interior design will favour warm and intimate materials such as wood and burel, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the naval universe, thus improving the tactile and acoustic comfort of the space.

    Outside, the intervention is also guided by surgical actions on the existing building without losing its essence and relationship with the Douro River. Reviewing and correcting pathologies and purifying the facades characterizes these adjustments. The outdoor space will be equipped with mechanisms that allow the control of insulation and protection from the winds to enhance the enjoyment of the landscape in the terrace area over the river. Thus, sustainability, durability and respect for cultural heritage determine the materials used. The river and its vessels inspire a nautical approach.
