ASR develops solutions that are directed to the end-user experience and follows sustainable models of construction and production.

Our practice aims to contribute to the process of place-making while paying homage to memory and history. The experimentation with materials in architecture translates a deep appreciation for heritage and craftsmanship. Therefore, the integration of tradition with innovation fosters environments where daily routines become sensorial ventures.

Based in Porto, the studio collaborates with other experts and consultants, both locally and internationally. The creative process is dialogical with the client, and intertwines research, design and architecture.

  • Sérgio Rebelo

    Founder · Architect

    Sérgio Rebelo is the founder of ASR. He graduated in Architecture at the University of Porto in Portugal and at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. Before launching his studio in Porto-Portugal in early 2018, he was the Design director at FR-EE of Fernando Romero in New York. In 2010, he was a thesis reviewer at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning (GSAPP). He treasures analytic processes and experimentation in different fields of Design.

  • La-Salete Carvalho

    Associate · Manager

    La-Salete Carvalho is the finance and operations director at ASR. Graduated in Marketing in 2000, she developed a career in dealing with international markets and an extensive experience as a head of human and financial resources. La-Salete integrates ASR in full time since 2019.

  • Joana Portela

    Architect

    Joana Portela got a master degree in Architecture at the University of Porto (FAUP). She also has a master degree in Communication, Design and Information Technologies at ISCTE in Lisbon and studied Visual and Technological Education. As an architect, she collaborated with Architects Without Frontiers in Porto, and since early 2018 works at the ASR. She had a leading role in Odeon Restaurant in Tallinn, Estonia.

  • Tiago Martins

    Visual Artist · Designer

    Tiago Martins graduated in Industrial Design from the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha - ESAD.CR. His experience ranges from product and furniture design to CG Art for architecture and interior design, as well as to production management, having been involved in producing stands at international fairs such as iSaloni, Maison et Objet and 100% Design. After collaborating with firms such as Menina Design and Super Bock Group, he joins ASR Team in 2021 as a Senior Designer and Visual Artist.

  • Mariana Pimentel

    Architect

    Mariana Pimentel Pires completed her master's degree in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon (FAUL) in 2014. She attended the painting course at the Ar.Co school in Lisbon between 2018 and 2020. In 2018 she curated the exhibition "Álvaro Siza. Journey without a program". Between 2015 and 2020, she worked in Manuel Aires Mateus' office in Lisbon. She currently lives in Porto and works since 2022 with ASR.
